Mr. Mayo is a GIS Specialist and Hydrogeologist with 16 years of experience with spatial database construction and modeling focusing on projects related to hydrogeologic exploration and assessment, and hydrochemical analysis.  He has provided technical consulting services to environmental professionals, municipalities, and private entities for wastewater disposal, storm water management, environmental compliance, public water supply, and land redevelopment and asset management projects.  He has also provided expert technical support for geologic exploration and GIS services in litigation.  Mr. Mayo has taught geology and GIS curricula and applications at area Universities and professional programs.  He is proficient with numerous geospatial, geologic, and hydrochemical database and modeling software packages and  possesses a working knowledge of environmental regulations.

Representative Projects

Spatial Analysis and Historical Composites:  Directed spatial analyses using the Thiessen Polygon approach to establish the study area geometry on which many different statistical and forensic analyses were based.  Compiled a sewershed map of the area from over 60 separate municipal sewer plans.  Performed research of historical charts and maps to develop an hisoritcal composite of the site and delineate the dredging history.

Conceptual Model Development and Aerial Image Analysis:  Reviewed historical environmental investigations, aerial imagery, and other records dating back to the 1940s to assist in the development of a conceptual model of contaminant release and migration in groundwater.  Incorporated a comprehensive set of groundwater quality data into a database and developed maps illustrating plume signature and evolution over time.  Performed analysis on aerial images dating back to the 1930s to identify pertinent site features and evaluate changes in land cover and use.  

Spatial Database Construction and Exploration Program Development:  Directed geospatial data acquisition, organization, and visualization.  Coordinated with multiple technical expert teams and attorneys and advised team members on GIS applications.  Researched and acquired GIS information from numerous private, state, federal, and local organizations for integration with project-specific information.  Performed spatial and temporal analyses and developed exhibits and figures for expert reports.  Assisted in the development and implementation of a joint exploration and testing program to evaluate the geotechnical and hydrogeologic properties of the subsurface in support of litigation.  On-site representative supervising field activities.

Data Collection and Sampling Plan Development:  Performed site visit to collect differential GPS data and photo-log pertinent features and locations.  Reviewed facility documents and developed a composite site plan showing historical sampling and exploration locations.  Developed a sampling plan using facility construction plans and field data in combination with industry standard sampling protocols to establish a randomly selected sampling location network in order to ensure spatial representativeness.

GIS Database Development:  Directed geospatial data organization and mapping for statewide water resource evaluations and investigations in Massachusetts, South Carolina, and North Carolina.  Established GIS database and user environment to assist with project planning and efficiency of field exploration activities.  Researched and acquired natural resource, political, and socio-economic information from numerous federal, state, and local sources for assimilation into the GIS database.
