U.S. EPA Appoints New Members to the Science Advisory Board and Subcommittees

On January 31, 2019, the U.S. EPA announced that Barbara D. Beck has been appointed to serve on the U.S. EPA Science Advisory Board (SAB).  SAB members are appointed by the U.S. EPA Administrator to provide scientific advice to the Administrator on broad topics related to environmental policy.  Participation is a public service to the agency and the country whereby SAB members help to ensure that agency decisions are based on the best and most current science.

Below is a general list of responsibilities Dr. Beck will assume in this role:

  • Review the quality and relevance of the scientific and technical information being used by the U.S. EPA or proposed as the basis for Agency regulations;
  • Review U.S. EPA research programs and plans;
  • Provide science advice as requested by the U.S. EPA Administrator; and
  • Advise the Agency on broad scientific matters.
