Food & Supplement Safety

Gradient has considerable experience in assessing safety and risk at all levels of the food supply chain and in evaluating toxicokinetic data.  We have assisted with Food Contact Notifications and Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) evaluations for food or food additives, provided input on harvest safety measures, evaluated potential risks from chemicals that migrate into food and those that occur naturally, and conducted toxicokinetic modeling and analyses on exposures to chemicals in food.  Some of our pertinent project experience includes evaluations of arsenic in apple juice, lead in food, and bisphenol A in food packaging; a safety evaluation of acrylamide in coffee; a safety assessment of energy drinks; a GRAS evaluation of caffeine; a scientific review of the safety of benzoate when used as a preservative; and toxicokinetic modeling of perchlorate and iodine exposures from food.
