May 14, 2020
Join Gradient scientists as they share their perspective on the current state of knowledge on COVID-19.
As organizations prepare to re-open their workplaces, considerable thought and planning will be necessary to minimize the risks of infection of their workforce. This webinar features presentations by three board-certified toxicologists with expertise in immunology, epidemiology, and industrial hygiene, respectively. They will provide their perspectives on the current scientific knowledge of COVID-19 virus and the best practices organizations should consider to protect their employees under pandemic conditions.
Isaac Mohar, Ph.D., DABT, an immunologist and toxicologist, will provide an overview of the current understanding of COVID-19 virus, including how it spreads, environmental stability, and disinfection, as well as testing and treatment options. The presentation will end by looking to the future and discussing current vaccines development and how herd immunity may be achieved.
Julie Goodman, Ph.D., DABT, FACE, ATS, an epidemiologist and toxicologist, will review several important concepts that are specific to infectious disease epidemiology and their application to the current COVID-19 pandemic. For example, this will include discussions of interpreting local and national trends and how contact tracing can help stop the spread in workplaces and communities.
David Dodge, M.S., DABT, CIH, an industrial hygienist and toxicologist, will discuss that, for as long as the COVID-19 virus is circulating and we lack an effective treatment or vaccine, employers will need to take efforts to minimize potential exposures to the virus in the workplace. Current best practices from reputable sources are available. This presentation will cover these best practices in the context of the “Hierarchy of Controls,” a fundamental framework for controlling exposures in the field of industrial hygiene, as well available resources for effective communication with employees.
