The 2013 Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) will take place December 9-13 at the Moscone Conference Center in San Francisco, California. Gradient scientists will present on several topics at this global conference that more than 22,000 earth and space scientists attend annually.
Samuel A. Flewelling, Ph.D., will present “Hydraulic Fracture Height Limits and Fault Interactions in Tight Oil and Gas Formations.” This talk will discuss physical constraints on fracture growth and underground fluid motion, both of which control the potential for fracturing fluid and brine to migrate upward and affect shallow potable groundwater.
Mathew P. Tymchak, M.S., will present the poster “Evaluating the Gutenberg-Richter Relationship for Induced Seismicity.” This poster will provide an evaluation of recent seismic events, injection well activity, and the potential for distinguishing induced seismic events from available data.
Teresa S. Bowers, Ph.D., will present “Career Paths for Geosciences Students (Invited).” This talk will provide a summary of current and future hiring drivers in the geosciences, including climate, environment, energy, georisk, and litigation, as well as characteristics that could potentially help students become successful employees in these sectors.
