Mr. Hadley is a senior environmental chemist with experience in product compliance, green chemistry, analytical methodology, and alternatives assessments. At Gradient, he provides technical support for toxicological risk assessments of medical devices and pharmaceuticals, contributes chemistry expertise and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analyses to regulatory submissions, and works with testing laboratories to better understand extractables and leachables data. Before joining Gradient, Mr. Hadley worked in analytical laboratories for consumer product testing, medical device efficacy, and pharmacokinetics studies. He has built an extensive knowledge base of organic and inorganic analytical methods, global product regulations, and manufacturing processes for a variety of product and material types.
Chemical Safety Analysis: Researched safety data sheets (SDSs) and literature published by manufacturers and industry groups to assess potential safety hazards of select chemicals identified in patient-contact devices. Contributed technical content to a client memo regarding the safety and sourcing of raw materials. Identified and recommended read-across chemical analogs for toxicological risk assessments.
Forensic Chemical Analysis: Researched historical surface water pathways and manufacturing records, and performed forensic chemical analysis as part of a contaminant source, fate, and transport investigation.
Read-Across Toxicological Assessment: Determined read-across chemical analogs for substances that have no readily available toxicity data to ensure the safe use of chemicals and consumer products, minimize analytical costs, and reduce dependence on animal testing. Assisted in compliance with hazard communication frameworks.
Toxicological Risk Assessment: Researched physicochemical properties and degradation products of various plasticizers, preservatives, and flame retardants. Determined suitable read-across analogs for specific chemicals of interest that lacked readily available toxicity data.
Analytical Methodology Assessment: Reviewed third-party analytical reports related to lead contamination in surface water and soil. Assessed the validity of the analytical results by reviewing quality control protocols associated with the analytical method.
Regulatory Compliance: Researched bacterial contamination of recreational waters and generated water quality models using the US EPA Water Quality Analysis Simulation Program to support a public pool proposal. Prepared a detailed report, including water quality modeling methodology, results from iterations of model with variations in parameters, and recommendations for the final pool design in order to meet state water quality standards.
