According to a new government analysis, wildfires threaten nearly one-third of residents and buildings in the United States (US), suggesting that the risk is greater than previously known.  The US Forest Service, working with Montana researchers, took a more limited approach to measuring wildfire risk, focusing its historical analysis on the 15 years between 2004 and 2018 – a period during which climate change had notably impacted atmospheric conditions.  A previous analysis ending in 2012 had considered conditions over 34 years.
