Dear Colleague,
In this issue of Trends, we discuss the topic of Geographic Information System (GIS)/remote sensing.
Our first article details the complexities of determining a waterbody’s jurisdictional status due to the changing “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule parameters. The second article explores the beneficial role of artificial intelligence (AI) text analytic methods for processing large amounts of information, aiding the identification of potentially responsible parties (PRPs) at complex sites. The third article discusses the importance of considering variability in land cover when assessing human health and ecological risk and the development of land cover classification models. Our fourth article highlights Gradient’s pro bono project with The 300 Committee Land Trust, where we provided our GIS expertise to re-map the Moraine Trail in Falmouth, MA.
Gradient contributors to this Trends issue include Matthew J. Mayo, M.S., GISP, CPG, P.G.; Drs. Kathleen A. Radloff and James W. Rice; Shuo Zhao, M.S.; and Charlotte Marsh, M.S., CPPS.
We hope this issue of Trends will provide a renewed perspective on the intricacies of GIS/remote sensing.
Yours truly,
Kurt Herman, M.Eng., P.G. and Chris Long, Sc.D., DABT
